The New York Knicks and team president Steve Mills are looking to win and win now.

With the latest free agency period now on the immediate horizon, Mills believes that the Knicks may have a bit of an edge as players begin to test the open market at the beginning of July.

In an interview with Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, Mills pointed out their African American front office should help them in connecting with free agents.

“The African American front office, that doesn’t get lost on guys,” Mills said.

Besides Mills, Knicks general manager Scott Perry, head coach David Fizdale, assistant general manager Gerald Madkins and special assistant to the general manager Allan Houston are all African American. It is also worth noting that the team's vice president of player and organizational development, Craig Robinson, is the brother-in-law of former United States President Barack Obama.

The Knicks are reportedly losing out on their free agent targets, with Kevin Durant now uncertain after his latest injury. Kyrie Irving is also allegedly set to sign with the Brooklyn Nets — an event which would be a major blow to the Knickerbockers.

It appears less and less likely than the Knicks will be able to sign a key free agent this offseason — though it ain't over, 'til it's over.
