In another case of a video game turned movie, The Sims is moving ahead with Margot Robbie at the helm.

Comicbook.com reported that Puck announced that The Sims video game series is happening, with Amazon MGM winning a bidding war for the film.

Rumors about the film started early this year, and Bobbie's LuckyChap Entertainment was attached to produce it. Kate Herron is to direct and co-write the screenplay with Briony Redman. Now that a studio has been attached, it's Sim-ply (see what I did there?) a matter of moving forward with the project.

Netflix was competing with Amazon MGM for the film. It was in high demand, considering the success of Robbie's Barbie. Plus, video game movies and TV adaptations have become very popular. Shows like Fallout and The Last of Us are huge, and movies like Super Mario Bros., Angry Birds, and Sonic the Hedgehog keep the genre strong in theaters.

About The Sims video game

The Sims is a social simulation game developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts in 200o. In it, players can create and control virtual people (Sims). They can manage their lives, and with its open-ended gameplay, there's no ending. You can give the Sims personalities and skills, spark relationships, and much more.

Since its launch, it has experienced a ton of spinoffs and expansions far beyond the PC. It's as popular as ever.

It'll be interesting to see how they make a movie from the popular game. But, as we know from previous releases, it's completely doable. That said, The Sims has no backstory or narrative, as each player creates their version of the game.

As for Robbie, she has a lot of other opportunities beyond the Sims, too.

IGN reported that Disney still wants her to make a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Jerry Bruckheimer, who would produce the movies, addressed Robbie's comments from 2022 on how she didn't believe Disney wanted to make her concept happen.

“We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led — not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story — which we thought would've been really cool,” Robbie said a few years back. “But I guess they don't want to do it.”

Bruckheimer recently told EW, “We hope to get 'em both made, and I think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too.”

Between The Sims and possibly a new Pirates of the Caribbean, we could see many future Margot Robbie films. She's in high demand, and these exciting new features will fuel her star power even more. We'll see how it all plays out as these projects develop.
