New York Knicks shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr. is averaging a career-high 22.1 points per game this season, but the 26-year-old says he needs to be more efficient on the court.

Tim Hardaway Jr. is shooting 39.8 percent from the floor and 36.0 percent from beyond the arc through 24 games. With Knicks star power forward Kristaps Porzingis still recovering from an ACL tear, New York's offense has been running primarily through Hardaway Jr.

The scoring numbers are nice, but Hardaway Jr. says he wants to become a better player by raising his efficiency numbers.

“My efficiency could be a lot better,” Hardaway Jr. said, via Marc Berman of the New York Post. “I got to do a better job of getting teammates the ball and doing a better job of reading the defense.”

The Knicks are 8-17 on the season, 11th place in the Eastern Conference. With Porzingis expected to miss most of the season, New York won't win many games. The roster isn't talented enough to compete for a lower playoff spot. The franchise is still in rebuild mode, which gives Tim Hardaway Jr. the green light on offense to pretty much shoot whenever he wants.

However, Hardaway Jr. is showing maturity with his comments. He understands to take the next step as a player, he needs to find ways to make his teammates better and become a more well-rounded basketball player. The Knicks should  be encouraged by that.
