Despite already having Jarrett Jack and Frank Ntilikina in their fold, the New York Knicks are reportedly still looking to add another point guard and are apparently interested in trading for Orlando Magic floor general Elfrid Payton.

The team’s general manager, Scott Perry, used to hold the same position with the Magic and was the one responsible for them to land Payton through the 2014 draft. Now, it has been reported that he may be looking to reuniting with him in The Big Apple, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post.

“The Magic are open for business, and it’s no surprise Knicks general manager and former Orlando executive Scott Perry has checked in on his former lottery pick, point guard Elfrid Payton, The Post has learned.”

“According to an NBA source who has spoken to Knicks brass, Perry has interest in reuniting with the 23-year-old Payton at the trade deadline, feeling he can get him at a discount and keep his rookie point guard Frank Ntilikina out of the deal.”

In 43 games so far this season, Payton is averaging a career-high 13.1 points, to go along with 4.0 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.4 steals in 28.7 minutes. With the Magic headed to another losing season, it does make sense for them to trade some of their key pieces in order to cut down the losses.

Should the Knicks be successful in trading for him, he could become their starter and help in the development of Ntilikina, as he is has been playing well with the Magic and understands what it takes to become an effective young point guard in the league today.
