Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel has shed some light on the injury of his superstar big man Anthony Davis, who has been ruled out for L.A.'s Monday night matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Vogel played down AD's Achilles injury, expressing how the Lakers are just erring on the side of caution here (h/t Jovan Buha of The Athletic):

Davis was a full participant in Saturday's 135-129 double overtime win against the Detroit Pistons. AD logged 45 minutes of action — the only time this season that he's eclipsed the 40-minute mark — so this likely factored in on the Lakers' decision to give him the night off on Monday.

For what it's worth, this is the fourth game Davis will miss this term in what has been a relatively robust campaign for L.A.'s prized big man.

The Lakers have been on a tear of late, winning four consecutive games. At 18-6, Los Angeles sits at the second spot of the Western Conference behind the 19-5 Utah Jazz.

The Lakers return to action on Wednesday in a rematch against the Thunder in Staples Center. Barring an unforeseen turn of events, we fully expect Davis to be good to go for that matchup. Three days off should be enough for him to get back on track in what has been another outstanding campaign for the seven-time All-Star.

In 21 games played this season, Davis has put up averages of 22.3 points (on 53.0 percent shooting), 8.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.9 blocks in 33.6 minutes per contest.
