Superstar big man Anthony Davis is “willing to” play center for the Los Angeles Lakers next season, but once again says his preferred position is the four spot.

Davis will play next to JaVale McGee in the starting lineup next season. The Lakers signed Dwight Howard after losing DeMarcus Cousins to an ACL tear.

“That’s something that we’re going to discuss,” Davis said, via Silver Screen and Roll. “Obviously if I have to, I’m willing to do it. But my preferred position is that I like to be a four.”

At his introductory press conference with the Lakers, Anthony Davis said, “I like playing the four, I’m not even going to sugarcoat it. I like playing the four, I don’t really like playing the five. But if it comes down to it, Coach, and you need me to play the five, I’ll play the five.”

Last season with the New Orleans Pelicans, Davis put up 25.9 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.4 blocks in 56 games. The six-time All-Star shot 51.7 percent from the floor, 33.1 percent from the 3-point line and 79.4 percent from the charity stripe.

The Lakers’ projected starting lineup for next season is LeBron James, Danny Green, Kyle Kuzma, Anthony Davis and JaVale McGee. Dwight Howard will be McGee’s backup.
