Dion Waiters has yet to make his debut for the Los Angeles Lakers, but he already feels comfortable in Hollywood.

Waiters said it has been easy to get to know his new Lakers coaches and teammates, and he feels comfortable in his own skin as he prepares for the next step in his career, per Kyle Goon of the Orange County Register:

Saturday’s practice was Waiters’ first. It was mainly a day of getting acquainted with terminology the Lakers use, and figuring out where he can add his skillset. The Lakers expect him to be a guard who can score off the dribble.

But getting to know the people in the building, Waiters said, was the easy part.

“We all grew up on the AAU circuit and things like that, so it wasn’t that hard,” he said. “I could easily just come in here and be myself. I don’t have to be nobody I’m not. So they opened the doors for me and welcomed me in with open arms, so it’s been smooth. It’s been really, really good.”

The former Miami Heat guard had a number of off-court issues earlier this year, but he said he has since matured and learned from his mistakes.

Waiters will not play right away for the Lakers as he looks to improve his conditioning. The 28-year-old has only played in three games this season, and it could take a bit of time for Waiters to get up to game speed with his new team.

There is one familiar face of particular note in L.A. Waiters played with LeBron James during the first few months of the 2014-15 campaign, and James will be hoping Waiters' arrival will give the Lakers added punch off the bench.
