New Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel has seen a similar injury to the one that center DeMarcus Cousins is attempting to recover from now. When he was with the Indiana Pacers, another star, Paul George, suffered a broken leg that cost him the season.

Cousins suffered an Achilles that put him on the disabled list for nearly a full season. Vogel is confident that his current star can recover as well as his former one, saying time is the most important factor.

“I talked to DeMarcus about Paul George and overseeing his recovery from that broken leg,” Vogel said. “The first year you’re out. You don’t play. You’re not even in uniform. I mean, you’re just not even in uniform. Year 2, you’re in uniform, but you’re not quite yourself the entire year. Gordon Hayward saw it this year. It takes, to me, a full second year to regain all of your rhythm, timing and explosiveness and quickness. It just takes time.”

Cousins looked a step slow this season in the playoffs. It seemed like he was still not at 100 percent on either end of the court. If Vogel is right, we could see the old Cousins emerge with the Lakers on a fully healthy offseason and some time to rest.

If Cousins comes back as well as George does, the Lakers will have yet another star on their roster. A rejuvenated Cousins could give the team the most stacked roster in the league.
