The Los Angeles Lakers got more good news on the COVID-19 front ahead of their New Year's Eve game against the Portland Trail Blazers. All of the Lakers players have exited health and safety protocols, and now head coach Frank Vogel is out of them and will coach against the Blazers on Friday night.

Vogel went into protocols on Dec. 19, with David Fizdale taking over as the head coach for the time being. Los Angeles went 1-5 with Fizdale manning the bench, with the lone win coming against the Houston Rockets.

The Lakers will hope to get back on the right track against another struggling team in the Blazers, who sit at a disappointing 13-21 on the season. Portland has lost three games in a row, with all of those losses coming by double figures as the team deals with its own set of health issues.  The Blazers are without their head coach, Chauncey Billups, who recently entered protocols. Scott Brooks is coaching the team right now.

L.A.'s 17-19 record has them at seventh in the Western Conference, while Portland is out of the play-in picture at the No. 12 spot. These two teams will try to get some better vibes going into 2022, so this will be an interesting game to watch.
