Russell Westbrook's tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers has been… rocky, to put it lightly. The former OKC star was brought in to supplement the dynamic duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. However, Westbrook has struggled heavily alongside the two stars.

Westbrook's reputation amongst the Los Angeles faithful has also taken a hit. Earlier in their game against the New York Knicks, the home fans booed him after a terrible miss. In the third quarter of the game, something even more incredible happened: the fans were heard telling Westbrook NOT to shoot. (via Ryan Maquiñana)

The worst part? Westbrook still took that three-point shot and missed.

This is almost unprecedented in NBA history. There have been cases of players being booed by their own fans for a bad shot, but it's rare for fans to actively tell a player to shoot! Much less a player of Westbrook's caliber! This reaction from the fans sums up Russ' tenure with the Lakers quite well.

The Lakers found themselves down by as much as 21 points to the Knicks at half-time. However, thanks to LeBron James' heroics and a fiery third quarter from Malik Monk, they were able to get back in the game and force overtime. Notably, Westbrook didn't play a single minute in the extra period, where the home team won handily.

Russell Westbrook has proven that he's valuable as someone who can pilot the bench unit to huge wins. However, if he wants to make it all the way to the playoffs, he needs to prove he can coexist and keep up the same production alongside his Lakers co-stars. Otherwise, he might find himself on the bench at the end of games more often.
