After officially signing LeBron James on Monday the Los Angeles Lakers locked up another player for next year signing second-round draft pick Svi Mykhailiuk to a three-year deal.

According to Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports the deal is two years guaranteed with a team option for the third year. He is a deadly shooter from deep that has opened up a lot of eyes around the Summer League. In two games he has put up 32 points shooting 52.2 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from deep.

He wasn't really asked to do a ton of defending with the Kansas Jayhawks, but in the first couple games of the summer league, he has shown that he is going to be a decent two-way player. Miles Simon, the Lakers summer league coach, called games in the Big 12 conference before becoming a Lakes assistant coach and was always impressed with what he saw.

“For three years I called Svi’s games, and I saw his progress from day one when he stepped on campus in Lawrence to his progress now. Nothing really surprises me with him because he’s still 20 years old but he can move, he can jump, he can slide his feet defensively,” Simon said via Silver Screen and Roll. “I still think he can get physically stronger once he starts hitting the weight room with us.

“He’s known as a shooter but he can do more than that. He’s a good defender, he’s very smart, he has a high basketball IQ. He moves well without the basketball. His 3-point shooting, it’s so fluid he can do it off the move, he can do it off the bounce. He shoots it with range, stand still. I think what we’ve seen in the eight or nine days that we’ve had him is that he has more versatility to his game than people probably give him credit for.”

There hasn't been much talk about what kind of role he will have on the team this year, but he should get some opportunities to come off the bench and light it up from deep.
