LeBron James has done a lot of things other than play basketball. The Los Angeles Lakers star is obviously one of the most outspoken players in the league, unafraid of speaking out against injustices. LeBron has also used his massive following to help other people in need, such as when he founded his “I Promise” school in his hometown Cleveland.

” Obviously, I didn’t know the ins and outs of how to create a school,” he [LeBron] admitted. “But so many kids like myself have dreams. And the only thing to stop those dreams from becoming a reality is the support around them.”

LeBron knows what's it like to live life on a day-to-day basis. He and his mother, Gloria, weren't exactly in a comfortable spot before LeBron entered the league. He knows the struggle that many kids face, and how the only thing hindering them is the lack of a support system around him. That's why despite knowing absolutely nothing about the process of creating a school, he was determined to make this project a reality, even when he moved to Los Angeles.

The “I Promise” school opened in 2018, while LeBron James was with the Lakers. He chose to use his platform and what he earned to create an environment that will help at-risk youth to make it through life. Hate him or love him, you have to respect LeBron's dedication to giving back to his roots.

The documentary will be released on September 28 on YouTube Originals.
