After LeBron James decided to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers for a fully guaranteed four years earlier this week, some L.A. residents decided to honor the three-time NBA champion — at the expense of a Laker legend in Kobe Bryant, by defacing his famous mural on Melrose Avenue with James's portrait.

A Laker fan wasn't amused by this move and quickly rectified the situation with a shoe, prompting questions as to where and when “The King” will have his own tribute someday. Despite not having played a single minute with the Purple and Gold, it appears there is one already.

That didn't take too long.

There is even a time-lapse video of the painting being made, as shared by SportsCenter.

It's unusual for players to be honored this early by their new team but given James' herculean ability to drag any team into the NBA Finals or at the minimum, a deep playoff run, all while contributing monster all-around stats — he truly is one of a kind and well deserving of such treatment.

The question that clouds the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player, however, is would he be able to replicate the same success now that he is in arguably the toughest conference in the league as he did in the East. It's also worth noting that his roster (as it stands), with the exception of Rajon Rondo and Lance Stephenson, is largely devoid of playoff experience or even winning basketball. This would certainly prove to be a challenge for James and could bolster his already impeccable legacy should he be able to pull it off.
