LeBron James has officially been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain on Saturday, after suffering an injury in the Los Angeles Lakers‘ game against the streaking Atlanta Hawks.

James, who was fighting for the ball in a play against Hawks guard Rajon Rondo and forward Solomon Hill hurt his ankle in the process. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, James is out indefinitely.

After the results of the x-rays came out negative, James took to Twitter to address his injury. The MVP candidate, who was having a stellar season, said he’ll be back like he never left and is deeply saddened over his inability to help his teammates.

There’s no clear timetable for James’ return. In hindsight, a grade one ankle sprain could take two weeks of recovery while a grade three sprain could take six weeks, which will then be close to the playoffs. The Lakers’ record is expected to dip given they are without two of their superstars in Anthony Davis, who is out with a calf strain, and James.

If the four-time MVP does indeed miss the next six weeks, the Lakers will play exactly 21 games without him. If James comes back by May 1, the Lakers will have just nine games left before the postseason wars commence. Currently, the defending champions are third in the Western Conference standings, behind the Phoenix Suns, who they will face on the second day of a back-to-back Sunday.
