In terms of basketball, we'll never get an objective answer to the GOAT debate between Michael Jordan and LeBron James. In the arena of luxury tequila, though, we'll soon learn who is definitively greater. (Well, at least according to the palates of agave experts.)

As the Boardroom pointed out, LeBron and Jordan's respective tequila brands, Lobos and Cincoro, are the two finalists in the “Best Tequila Reposado” (reposado = “rested”) category at the 2022 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the spirits e-commerce marketplace ReserveBar and The Tasting Alliance announced on Tuesday. The winner is set to be revealed in mid-June.

Notably, Los Angeles Lakers president and co-owner Jeanie Buss is an investor in Cincoro, so she'll presumably be rooting against the current face of her franchise in this niche beverage competition. Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Wes Edens and Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck are also partners alongside the Charlotte Hornets owner.

Here was LeBron's reaction to Lobos reaching the Tequila Finals:

According to Reserve Bar's website, the Cincoro Tequila Reposado (the nominated batch) is aged “8-10 months in our underground cellar, allowing more interaction between the tequila and wood. Cooked agave, with hints of vanilla on the nose, are complimented by spices and dried fruits. On the palate, cooked agave, light vanilla and baking spices complement toasted oak in perfect proportion.” A 750ml bottle goes for $114.

LeBron's Lobos 1707 Tequila, Reposado is described as having a “distinct profile that is spicy, bold, and audacious – expectant from any middle child with something to prove after resting for six months.” A 750ml of this Lobos reposado sells for $51 if you're interested.

May the best tequila win.
