Los Angeles Lakers superstar small forward LeBron James was reportedly stunned to learn of Magic Johnson's decision to step down as president of basketball operations, according to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

Johnson told reporters on Tuesday in an impromptu press conference at Staples he was stepping down. No one in the Lakers organization, including LeBron, saw it coming.

LeBron James was stunned to learn of Magic Johnson's decision to step down as the Los Angeles Lakers' president of basketball operations, a source with knowledge of James' thinking told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne on Wednesday.

Magic is one of the main reasons James signed with the Lakers last summer. The four-time MVP wanted to help Johnson bring the franchise back to prominence.

Los Angeles missed the playoffs this season, though. James' groin injury and the Anthony Davis trade saga defined this season for the Purple and Gold.

It's going to be interesting to see where the Lakers go from here. Owner Jeanie Buss will have to find someone to be the new president of basketball operations. Los Angeles is expected to try and trade for Davis again this summer and pursue a star player in free agency.

In his first season in LA, LeBron played in 55 games and averaged 27.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 8.3 assists.
