The Los Angeles Lakers missed out on a traditional championship parade amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

However, while players and coaches will receive their rings ahead of Tuesday's opener against the L.A. Clippers, the Lakers will not unveil the championship banner.

Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported the Purple and Gold will hold off on officially unfurling the banner until fans are allowed back in the seats:

The Lakers will have a black cloak covering the 2019-20 championship banner for opening night, with the message, “Stay tuned, Lakers family,” printed in gold block letters on it.

It will stay covered until the coronavirus pandemic has subsided and fans are allowed back in the building for games.

Lakers president of business operations Tim Harris told ESPN the organization felt it was important the fans share the moment:

“And then the stuff that comes with a championship, the assets that come with a championship, it's kind of like the ownership group are the caretakers of the trophy,” Harris said, via McMenamin. “And the rings when you win a championship, those belong to the players. And the banner when you win a championship belongs to the fans. That's kind of how I look at this.”

It remains to be seen when fans will be allowed in the Staples Center, though capacity crowds might not be a possibility.

In the meantime, Lakers fans can enjoy the return of their championship team. The Lakers are once again considered a favorite to win this year's NBA title, a quest that begins Tuesday night against the crosstown rival Clippers.
