Los Angeles Lakers legend and Hall of Fame point guard Magic Johnson is encouraging fans of the Purple and Gold to tune in to tonight's episode of ESPN's Chicago Bulls docu-series, “The Last Dance.”

The episode will heavily feature the late Kobe Bryant, and Johnson said Kobe's cameos and interviews will “mean a lot” to Lakers fans and Kobe fans everywhere.

“It’s going to mean a lot to a lot of people, especially [in Los Angeles], and it’s going to mean a lot to Kobe fans,” he said during a recent interview. “They’re going to need this. Nobody is past what happened. It will mean something to them and all of us who are Kobe fans and Lakers fans.”

Fans around the world are still mourning Bryant's death after he and eight others–including his daughter, Gianna–were killed in a helicopter crash in January. But Johnson said tonight will be an important step of remembrance for the Lakers legend.

It is no surprise Bryant plays a prominent role in the series. He was named the youngest All-Star starter in history in 1998. The then-young Lakers guard was already being hailed as Michael Jordan's successor as the league's next big star when Jordan was in the twilight of his career.

Unbeknownst to fans, Jordan and Bryant developed a very close relationship. He called Kobe his “little brother” during his speech at Bryant's memorial service. And fans are sure to gain a unique glimpse into their friendship at some point in tonight's episode.
