The NBA preseason is kicking off with a bang – well, at least on paper. Title favorites the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers are set to square off in the first preseason game, but the action will be devoid of most of the stars.

Despite Kevin Durant and Co. sitting this one out, the Lakers are reportedly still planning to play Anthony Davis in the non-bearing contest. Coach Frank Vogel spoke out on the decision.

Via ESPN's Dave McMenamin:

“AD didn’t finish the season,” Vogel said. “He finished in street clothes because of injury. He wants to get out there, so we’ll support him on that.”

There's probably nobody hungrier on the Lakers roster right now than Anthony Davis. His injury was the biggest factor that held his team back last season, leading to their premature exit from the playoffs. He's had to sit on that fact for months.

The injury-prone tag has followed him throughout his entire career. While it's impossible to guarantee a clean bill of health, every season is a fresh start, for the Lakers and AD.

The Lakers big man is only expected to play in the first quarter. While the game and box score hold zero weight in the long run, you better believe Anthony Davis will make his presence felt in the limited time he is out there.
