LeBron James has reached another historic milestone – but this time it's for something off the court. The Los Angeles Lakers star has now eclipsed the 100 million follower mark on Instagram, the first athlete from the major American sports to do so.

The number is even more staggering when comparing it to other social media followings. The Lakers star has an even larger audience than the league pages of every major US sports league combined.

LeBron James' figure towers over other superstars as well. Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is the closest NBA player to him with 36.7 million IG followers. His former teammate and longtime LeBron James rival Kevin Durant has 12.3 million. Combining their totals amounts to less than half of the Lakers star's nine-digit figure.

Even across other sports, King James reigns supreme. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has just 10% of the Lakers star's total with a 10.2 million following list. Patrick Mahomes has less than half of that at 4.6 million himself.

Nobody among Mike Trout, Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, or Bryce Harper has even breached two million followers.

Basketball truly is a global game and LeBron James has carried the torch to grow it for nearly two decades now.
