The past Los Angeles Lakers season was a one-of-a-kind mess. Shuffling up the squad they had would have been a wise decision. In one previously considered scenario, they looked into trading for one of the biggest lightning rods in the NBA, Kyrie Irving, to pair home with LeBron James.

According to Ian Begley of SNY, the Lakers considered trading for Irving during the time that he was not playing with the Brooklyn Nets earlier in the season.

Several outlets, including SNY, reported that the Nets had been open to talking to teams about potential Irving trades during that time. Obviously, nothing came to fruition. But some members of the Lakers organization discussed the possibility of trading for Irving during that stretch of the season, sources say.

The deal would have obviously reunited Irving with LeBron James. It’s unclear if the Lakers reached any internal consensus on Irving at the time.

Trading for Irving during his hiatus from the Nets would have been a monumental trade. Reuniting Irving and James would have been a huge move, especially if Los Angeles kept Anthony Davis in whatever potential deal they considered. Of course, it didn't seem to come very close to happening and both the Lakers and Nets thoroughly disappointed this past season. LA failed to qualify for the playoffs while the Nets lost in the quickest way possible in the first round.

The Lakers and Nets have long offseasons ahead of them. The possibility of a LeBron James-Kyrie Irving reunion doesn't seem impossible, as both players could be looking for new chapters in their careers soon. Could they rehash an old one together?
