It's been a rollercoaster ride for Lakers fans across the world this year as 2020 opened up with the tragic news of the passing of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi. Almost nine months after that horrific day in California, the city is back to utter jubilation as the Los Angeles Lakers were officially crowned as this year's champions after their Game 6 win over the Miami Heat.

Though everyone was asked to remain safe at home due to COVID-19, it seems as though these safety restrictions didn't stop the city of LA from honoring the Laker legend as the Larry O'Brien trophy is on its way back to the City of Angels. Chants of “Kobe” echoed in the streets of downtown LA sending goosebumps and chills to basketball fans everywhere.

LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and the rest of the Lakers squad wanted to win it all in Game 5 as they donned their Mamba Jerseys that evening but Jimmy Butler and the Heat had other plans and spoiled the potential storybook ending for the Lakers' 2019-2020 season. This Lakers unit has been all about resiliency all-season long and they managed to regroup after that loss and finish the Heat with an emphatic haymaker in Game 6 en route to franchise's 17th championship.

This ring is undoubtedly one of the best ways to honor a Lakers legend who was able to bring home five trophies in his two-decade-long career in LA. Kobe would've loved to be with the team now to celebrate the return of the franchise to the promised land and he's probably looking down right now tipping his hat to this Lakers unit after one heck of a season.
