Following a four-year stint with the Guangdong Tigers, seven-foot Chinese big man Yi Jianlian has been given a second chance in the NBA by the Los Angeles Lakers. According to ESPN, the Lakers and Yi agreed to an $8 million, incentive-laden one-year deal to bring the 28-year old to the organization.

Jianlian left the NBA in 2011, We was drafted by the Milwuakee Bucks in 2007 before failing to make a significant impact on the league. He also played for the New Jersey Nets, Washington Wizards, and the Dallas Mavericks.

Yi impressed viewers during his recent stint in the Rio Olympics, averaging 20.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for China. The Lakers were clearly eyeing him and felt as though he would be a good fit alongside their young core.

One member of the Lakers’ young core is 23-year old Larry Nance Jr., who enjoyed a successful rookie season last year. With a new coaching staff and an improved roster, Nance Jr. believes that his team can make a significant jump this season.

Despite Yi Jianlian’s natural position being the same as his, Nance doesn’t appear to be phased and it seems that he is willing to sacrifice minutes if it helps the team win.

Per ESPN:

“I don't know too much about his play style,” Nance Jr. said. “The guys that come over from overseas are usually pretty intelligent, so I'm looking forward to working with him. I'm not too worried about him crowding things [in the frontcourt] because it's another teammate — if he helps us win, he helps us win. I'm looking forward to it.”

The new coaching staff in LA should be enthused by Nance’s professional approach as they attempt to incorporate both him and Jianlian suitably.
