The Las Vegas Raiders suffered a first-round playoffs exit, but it can be said they still had a fairly successful season. After all, Las Vegas was not expected to make it to the postseason but made it despite all the controversies they faced.

Head Coach Jon Gruden resigned after past emails containing racist, misogynistic and homophobic remarks were leaked. Later in the season, Henry Ruggs III got into a crash, which resulted in the death of a woman. A first-round pick by the Raiders in 2020, he was released by the team following the incident.

If that wasn't enough drama, the Raiders released their other 2020 first-round pick, Damon Arnette. This was following a video that surfaced of Arnette holding a gun and making threats. The Kansas City Chiefs have since signed him to a reserve/futures contract.

With all this going on, quarterback Derek Carr was able to lead his team to the playoffs. The Raiders showed their potential, and they could become a contender with some free agent additions.

That being said, here are three early free agent targets for the Raiders in the 2022 NFL offseason.

3. Tyrann Mathieu – Safety

The Raiders have a solid foundation, but like many teams, they need to improve the holes on their roster. Las Vegas selected safety Trevon Moehrig in the second round of the 2021 draft, and he has been phenomenal. Moehrig was a steal in the draft and has been everything they want and more.

The next step for the Raiders is pairing him with an elite safety. Tyrann Mathieu would be a perfect target since he is one of the best safeties in the NFL. He has been the defensive leader for the Kansas City Chiefs over the past few seasons, helping them bring home Super Bowl 54.

This season, he had three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown. His playmaking ability on defense would help them become a much-improved defense.

2. Brandon Scherff – Right Guard

Las Vegas needs to improve their offensive line to give Carr more time in the pocket. The Raiders QB was tied as the fifth most sacked quarterbacks this season, as he was sacked 40 times. Adding a five-time Pro Bowl guard in Scherff would instantly improve their protection.

The Raiders are in a tough division with the Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos. Having a great offensive line would give Las Vegas an advantage against the pass rush.

1. Davante Adams – Wide Receiver

The ideal free agent acquisition for the Raiders is wide receiver Davante Adams. Adams is regarded by many as the best receiver in the league, and rightfully so. With the Green Bay Packers' disappointing playoff exit, the future of the team is in question because many of their stars could be gone.

While Green Bay hopes to retain Adams, it is entirely possible that he will leave. The Raiders would be an excellent destination for both sides, as Carr played with Adams at Fresno State and are great friends.

Although Adams has only played with Aaron Rodgers, his skills will translate with another quarterback under center. This season, Adams had 123 receptions for 1,553 yards and 11 touchdowns. His elite route-running and ability to create separation make him difficult for any defense to stop.

While the price tag will be high for Adams, he would be well worth the addition.

Las Vegas has a vital offseason ahead to get their roster ready for another playoff push. Although they made the playoffs this season, it is no guarantee they make it back. Making a few great acquisitions will be beneficial while also giving a boost to the players on the roster.
