There’s always this sense of dread and awe when purchasing a box of high-end cards. Collectors always expect a massive hit, maybe a LeBron James card or one of the top rookies that will somehow compensate for the price of the entire box. For this card breaker, though, it was a classic case of close, but definitely no cigar in the end.

In the video posted by Hurley Hobbies, a box of 2021 Panini Noir is being opened. This particular product is priced at $2,000 with 10 cards inside it, making it a high-risk high-reward move for most collectors.

As the video progresses, the breaker is hyping up the next card, which is revealed to be a Noir Vintage Art LeBron James 9/11. While the card itself is a huge deal, especially since it’s a numbered banger of the King himself, what happened next is something no one in the hobby would ever want.

While the card is being picked up by the breaker, its golden border falls apart. The card itself completely breaks away, ending any hopes of gaining any benefit from it in the process.

As of the moment, there isn’t any similar card sold on eBay to help gauge its value on the market. The closest that comes to it is a 2021 Noir LeBron James card numbered to 25 copies, which sold for $500.

With this particular LeBron James card ending up as a defect, there will only be 10 copies left from this set. In any case, this blunder is something every card company should be on the lookout for, especially since it comes from a very expensive brand.
