Darius Slay has been in the league for five years, each of which he has improved. Last year was his best season ever as he qualified for the Pro Bowl and finished tied for the league lead in interceptions.

Slay's looking ahead and his goals don't stop at this next season. In fact, they are career-long goals. There is only one place that he wants to go when he retires, Canton, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

“My individual goal is to be in the Hall of Fame one day,” Slay said after Day 2 of Lions minicamp Wednesday. “I mean, that’s everybody’s goal. Whose goal in the NFL is not to be in the Hall of Fame? That’s crazy.”

Slay is a well-respected cornerback, but to make the Hall of Fame, he's going to have to pick up his game even more. Tying the league lead in interceptions one time isn't going to be enough to get the call from the hall.

“I just (have to) continue to be me and keep growing as a player,” Slay said. “That’s just the ultimate goal as me as a kid growing up. Everybody wants to be in the Hall of Fame … It’s just be an honor to be in there, so it’s not like I’m saying I’m going to get in there. But that’s just my goal to reach as my personal self because I love the game so much that I want to work hard to be in there.”

Deion Sanders finished his career with 53 interceptions and after five seasons, Slay only has 14. He is going to have to have a lot more repeats of last year to even come close to matching Sanders.

At this point, the more realistic expectations might be for the Lions Hall of Fame, but you can't discredit the Lions cornerback for having lofty goals.
