The Detroit Lions added a familiar face to their practice squad on Thursday. Former backup quarterback David Blough is rejoining the Lions after being cut by the Arizona Cardinals, according to Tom Pelissero.

Blough spent the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Lions. He started five games for them as a rookie in 2019, losing all five. Blough completed 54 percent of his passes, tossing four touchdowns and six interceptions. He appeared in two more games for the Lions in 2020 and 2021, playing 19 total snaps.

Blough was with the Minnesota Vikings for most of last season before the Cardinals picked him up in mid-December. He started two games for Arizona, finishing with an 82.7 passer rating in two losses.

The Lions released Blough after preseason last year to make room for Nate Sudfeld. Ironically enough, Blough might be a replacement for Sudfeld this year after the latter tore his ACL. Blough's reunion with the Lions comes exactly one year after they released him.

Though a return to the Lions may have been what Blough wanted, it will likely take an injury to get him on the active roster. Jared Goff is firmly locked in as Detroit's starter and Teddy Bridgewater did nothing in preseason to warrant him losing the backup role.

While there's always a possibility another team could poach David Blough, his track record in the NFL doesn’t exactly give him a ton of suitors. For now, he is back with the Lions and adds another voice to their QB room.
