The Detroit Lions have hired Mike Disner as their new vice president of football administration, according to the team.

Disner spent the last six seasons in the Arizona Cardinals' front office, working as the team's director of football administration. During that time, he helped manage player contract negotiations and served in the strategic planning of the Cardinals' salary cap. In addition, he was Arizona's liaison to the NFL Management Council.

Before his stint with the Cardinals, Disner as the Labor Operations Coordinator for the NFL Management Council from 2009 through 2011 before serving as the Labor Operations Manager in 2012.

Disner earned his first NFL job with the New England Patriots in 2005, working as an intern for the summers of 2005 and 2006 before becoming a scouting assistant in 2007.

The Lions are coming off a season in which they won just six games, marking their worst finish since going 4-12 back in 2012.

Detroit has been one of the NFL's worst franchises over the better part of the last two decades, going without a playoff appearance for 11 seasons between 2000 and 2010 before finally breaking through with a Wild Card berth in 2011.

Since then, the Lions have made the postseason three times overall, including Wild Card berths in 2014 and 2016.

However, Detroit lost in the Wild Card Round in each of those three years and has not won a playoff game since the 1991-92 campaign, when it made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game before falling to the Washington Redskins.

The Lions have lost nine straight playoff games overall.
