The Detroit Lions are bringing back a key member of the secondary as they look to improve under the second season of the Dan Campbell regime. According to Adam Schefter, the Lions have reached an agreement to re-sign safety Tracy Walker on a three-year deal worth $25 million.

Walker was the Lions' third-round pick in 2018 out of Louisiana, and has since featured in 59 games across his first four seasons in the league. Last year he started 15 games, recording 1 interception, 6 pass defenses, 108 tackles, and 3 tackles for loss.

With free agency looming, the Lions acted in order to keep him off the open market. He's set to slot back into the starting lineup in 2022 where he'll play a key role on the Lions' defense.

The Lions are expected to pick No. 2 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. The move to retain Walker likely puts the Lions out of the picture for Notre Dame star Kyle Hamilton, who is expected to be among the first players off the board. Instead, the Lions could turn their targets towards offensive lineman Evan Neal from Alabama, or Michigan's Aiden Hutchinson with the second pick in the draft.

Throughout the 27-year-old's career, Walker has 3 interceptions and a total of 20 pass breakups. He's recorded 319 tackles and 14 tackles for loss, but has shown significant improvement over his past two seasons. The Lions have been impressed with the strides he's taken of late, and are rewarding his play with a lucrative three-year deal to keep him as a key cog of the secondary.
