Man United parted ways with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over the weekend, but surprisingly, the rest of his coaching staff remained at Old Trafford. Assistant and former player Michael Carrick ultimately took over as the interim boss, but Red Devils legend Paul Scholes believes that was the absolute wrong move.

Speaking on BT Sport, Scholes slammed Carrick and Co. for not departing alongside the Norwegian:

“I feel with Ole he put a lot of trust into Michael, Kieran and Mike Phelan which is why they shouldn't be at the club now.

“They're all good friends and they're good people but if I was them, I'd feel guilty still working at Man United after Ole put so much trust in them.

“I'd be embarrassed to be on the staff now after what happened to Ole.”

However, after Man United booked their spot in the Champions League knockout stages with a 2-0 victory over Villarreal on Tuesday, Carrick was asked about the criticism he received from Scholes and revealed that Ole himself asked Carrick to take over and guide the club for the rest of the season.

United is still searching for a full-time replacement, but if Carrick continues to do well, there's always the chance that he remains at the helm. It won't get any easier this weekend though as the side takes on league leaders Chelsea.
