Manchester United brought in Bruno Fernandes in the 2021 January transfer window from Sporting Lisbon and he's been a key player ever since. Now, they're looking to extend his current deal for the long-term as he continues to be an important piece of the project at Old Trafford.

Contract talks have been ongoing since last July, but according to Fabrizio Romano, the Manchester United midfielder is on the verge of putting pen to paper:

Fernandes is enjoying another impressive campaign this term, bagging nine goals and tallying six assists in 27 Premier League appearances for United, who are fighting tooth and nail for a Champions League spot. While he made a much bigger impact in 2020-21, the Portuguese international is still one of the club's most promising young players.

His current contract is set to keep him at Manchester United until 2025, but once he inks a new deal, we can potentially expect Fernandes to stay much longer. His ability to score goals and lay on assists is seen as a huge positive for the Red Devils. No matter who comes in as the next manager, he'll undoubtedly keep improving.

United's problems are most notably at the back, with Harry Maguire struggling immensely this season with his form. But, if Fernandes is committing his future to this team, he clearly believes they have the ability to turn things around and start competing for titles.

As for 2021-22, Manchester United will be trophy-less, already getting knocked out of every cup and way out of the mix for the EPL title. Perhaps next season will be better if they bring in more talent.
