Why The Mariners Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Mariners have Emerson Hancock on the mound, and he has thrown the ball well in his last four starts. In those four games, Hancock has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of them. In fact, Hancock allowed just one earned run in three of those four starts. He needs to continue this streak in this game. If Hancock continues to pitch well, the Mariners will be able to win this game.

The Twins do not have a great offense. It is not bad, but it is not great. Hancock has a good chance to shut down the Twins in this game and lead the Mariners to a win. Offensively, the Twins will strike out a decent amount, and they do not take their walks. Hancock has to keep the Twins from finding too many barrels and should be able to rack up a few strikeouts. Hancock should be able to limit his walks in this game and keep the Twins offense under control.

Why The Twins Will Cover The Spread/Win

Bailey Ober has a little bit of an inflated ERA. He allowed eight runs on nine hits over 1.1 innings in his first start of the season. He now has a 4.55 ERA, and 1.05 WHIP. Take away that start, and Ober has a 2.37 ERA, 17 hits allowed, just one home run allowed, and 27 strikeouts in 30.1 innings pitched. His WHIP is well below 1.00, as well. He has been able to pitch very well since his first start of the season, and that can continue in this game.

The Mariners do not have great hitters. They strike out a bunch, their batting average is bottom-5 in the MLB, and their slugging percentage is bottom-10 in the MLB. Their offense is not great, so Ober should be able to continue pitching well in this game. He will limit the extra bases, and the Twins are 3-0 in his last three starts. As long as Ober continues his hot hand, the Twins are going to keep on playing well.

Final Mariners-Twins Prediction & Pick

The Twins just had a long win streak ended, but they have worked their way back up to second place in the AL Central. However, the Mariners have also been playing some good baseball, and they hold the top spot in the AL West division. This should be a good series, and both pitchers in this game are throwing the ball well. I will take the Twins to win this game straight up. Ober has been lights out lately, and I expect that to continue in this game. The Twins' moneyline is my pick.
