The Dallas Mavericks are “getting really close” to signing point guard Yogi Ferrell, according to Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports.

Ferrell averaged 10.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game last season while shooting 37.3 percent from deep.

The diminutive floor general first impressed after playing out two 10-day contracts in 2016-17, stepping up to the starting point guard position due to the absence of J.J. Barea and Devin Harris.

The Mavs are now riding with Dennis Smith Jr. as their point guard of the future, with Barea playing a backup role as a hybrid backcourt player.

If signed, Ferrell will be limited to short stints at point guard, considering his diminutive size won't help him as a spot-up shooter against bigger bodies.
