Dallas Mavericks point guard Dennis Smith Jr. has liked a post on Instagram which talks about the Mavs trading him.

ESPN published a report late Monday evening stating that the Mavs want to move on from Dennis Smith Jr., and by the looks of it, Smith Jr. wants to find a new home as well:

The Mavs drafted Dennis Smith Jr. with the ninth overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. The explosive guard had a sound rookie season, as he averaged 15.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game.

Smith Jr. made the All-Rookie team and was poised to take the next step this year.

However, the Mavs drafted Luka Doncic in the 2018 Draft and have given him the keys to the offense. As a result, Smith Jr. is playing more of an off-ball role this season and he's struggled on the court. The North Carolina native is averaging 12.6 points per contest this year and shooting 40.5 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from beyond the arc.

By all accounts, Smith Jr. and Doncic get along off the court, but it's clear as day they can't play with each other. Dallas isn't going to trade Doncic because he has star potential written all over him. With the February trade deadline about a month away, the Mavs have to see if they can fix the basketball fit. If they can't, Dallas will probably trade Dennis Smith Jr.
