Entering his 16th season in the league, the Dallas Mavericks' veteran point guard Devin Harris is not yet ready to call it a career just yet.

Speaking to Eddie Sefko of Mavs.com, the 35-year-old talked about what kind of approach he is taking in terms of facing his immediate future in the league. Harris, who will become an unrestricted free agent this summer once his one-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks expires, explains why he is not stressing too much about the upcoming offseason.

“One of my good friends, Richard Jefferson, last summer kind of explained to me where I am on the totem pole,” Harris said. “When July comes around and late July comes around, you are not a priority right now. August, mid-August, that’s your time. So until we get there, no, I’m not worried about it.”

This is the type of mindset that comes from over a decade and a half worth of experience in the league, and in the process, playing for five different teams. Harris went on to point out that right now, he is more than comfortable in playing the waiting game, as he realizes that sooner or later, he should get his number called.

“I learned that last year. In the middle of July, I was like, ugh. But it’s not your time yet,” he said. “August, that’s your time. This is where you are in your career. That’s when you start freaking out. July? Enjoy yourself. Because you got to let all those dominoes fall. And once those big pieces fall in place, they’re going to need other people to fill out teams and that’s where you come in. That’s what I learned last summer. And that’s the way I’m approaching it this summer.”

Despite his optimism, however, there is no guarantee that Harris will be playing in the NBA next season. While he does still seem to have some gas left in the tank, there is always a possibility that teams look the other way. Nonetheless, we're still hoping for the best for the former All-Star here.
