Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki is reportedly ready to return to action after missing the first part of the season due to injury.

Nowitzki underwent surgery earlier in the year on his left ankle, and that led to a long road to recovery that has caused him to be sidelined for the first 26 games of the season.

However, it sounds like the former NBA Finals MVP is finally prepared to get back on the court.

From ESPN's Tim MacMahon:

Dirk Nowitzki is finally ready to begin his record-breaking 21st season with the Dallas Mavericks, sources told ESPN.

The sources said that Nowitzki plans to make his season debut in Thursday's road game against the Phoenix Suns after a longer-than-anticipated recovery from spring surgery on his left ankle.

Getting Nowitzki back is obviously a huge boost for the Mavs, which should only add to the early success thus far this season.

Rick Carlisle's team is off to a 15-11 start, and Dallas has been playing some of its best basketball of the year after struggling to a 3-8 start. The Mavs are now winners of eight of their last 10 games, so Nowitzki will step into a situation where his team is playing with a lot of confidence.

Of course, he'll also get the chance to play with Luka Doncic for the first time, as the rookie star is putting up excellent numbers in his first season in the league.

While it may be asking a lot for Nowitzki to come out and play a ton of minutes in Phoenix, having him back on the floor should allow the Mavs to continue their hot streak.
