Dallas Mavericks rookie phenom Luka Doncic keeps turning heads as each games passes, and Mavs guard J.J. Barea says the 19-year-old is having so much fun playing the game which he loves at the highest level.

Through his first 19 games as an NBA player, Doncic is putting up some impressive numbers for the Mavs. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft is averaging 19.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 45.7 percent from the floor, 39.8 percent from beyond the arc and 79.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Doncic has a player efficiency rating of 16.3. More importantly, he's helping Dallas win games. The Mavs are 10-9 on the season and have the 13th-best offense in the league, scoring 111.1 points per game.

J.J. Barea says he has never seen any player enjoy the game of basketball as much as Luka Doncic does. It's a big reason why Doncic is the early front-runner for the Rookie of the Year Award, via Rob Mahoney of Sports Illustrated:

“I’ve never seen a guy enjoy the game so much during it,” Mavs guard J.J. Barea says. “If he does something good, he can’t stop smiling. Even in practice.”

In a recent session, Doncic got the better of Dorian Finney-Smith, an impressive defender in his own right. “It was nasty,” Finney-Smith says. “But he missed.” Doncic didn’t care. Whenever he ran into his teammate in the days after, Dončić would mime the move that duped him.

Throughout the entire offseason, draft scout after draft scout said Luka Doncic wasn't going to have success in the NBA due to his lack of lateral quickness and upper body strength. It's still early, but Doncic has star potential written all over him.
