Already playing in his third season in the league, the Dallas Mavericks' Luka Doncic was reportedly unaware that his rookie cards have already skyrocketed over the past few months. Upon learning that some of them are selling on the market for $50,000, the Mavs' Slovenian star jokingly said that he needed to get his hands on those cards one of these days, per Brad Townsend.

Due to his high potential as a basketball player, fans were quick to grab Doncic's rookie card back in the 2018-2019 season while it is still relatively cheap. Despite the price, they are still expected to get a return on their investment in the coming months or years depending on how Doncic continues to progress as a player.

On another note, the 21-year-old Doncic's performance on the court also affects the prices of his cards in the long run. Heading to the 2020-2021 season, Doncic was tagged as an early MVP candidate by many.

Through five games into the 2020-2021 season, Luka Doncic didn't disappoint as he currently averages 24.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 6.4 assists. However, his individual performance has yet to translate to consistent wins for the Mavericks as they are still settling for a 2-3 record early in the season.

Despite the team's struggles as a unit, the star swingman continues to serve as the Mavericks' leader as they aim to snag another playoff appearance by the end of the regular season. Hopefully, by then, Luke Doncic will have already taken another step in his development that will ultimately bring the prices of his cards to a whole another level.
