The Dallas Mavericks got a huge win in Game 2 of their western conference first-round series against the Utah Jazz. They did it without their superstar, Luka Doncic. Well, they are going to have to do it again in Game 3. Doncic has officially been ruled out for Thursday night's game in Utah, as reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

There was previously pessimism that he would be able to suit up. Things might have been different had the Mavericks lost Game 2. Instead with the series tied at a game a piece, Dallas can be a little more casual bringing back their superstar.

Doncic suffered a left calf strain in the final game of the regular season. That type of injury typically holds players out for a couple of weeks. At the very least, Doncic would not be close to fully healthy if he returns anytime soon. Earlier this season, Jazz All-Star center Rudy Gobert suffered the same injury. He missed almost a month of action with the strained calf.

Those types of injuries tend to linger.

In Doncic's absence, fellow Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson has showed out for Dallas. After struggling with his shot in Game 1, Brunson dropped 41 points in the Game 2 victory. The offensive onus will likely fall on him once again.
