Dallas Mavericks center Kristaps Porzingis will join teammate Josh Richardson on the sidelines in the second game of their back-to-back against the Los Angeles Lakers at American Airlines Center on Saturday.

Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle clarified that The Unicorn's ankle sprain is not a cause of concern, but the team opted to sit him out of this one as a precaution, per Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

By now, Mavs fans are used to seeing Kristaps Porzingis in street clothes since he's been in and out of the team's lineup this season due to injuries. The 7-foot-3 Latvian has only suited up for 39 of the team's 58 games so far.

For what it's worth, KP was a thorn to the side of the Lakers in their last outing, putting up 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting, along with six rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 29 minutes in the Mavs' 115-110 win.

While his relationship (or supposed lack of thereof) with fellow All-Star Luka Doncic has been questioned, Porzingis continues to produce solid numbers for the Mavs. He's putting up similar averages from last season, tallying 20.4 points on 47.4 percent shooting from the field and 36.3 from deep, to go along with 9.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.5 blocks.

KP, of course, feasted against the Lakers' compromised frontline in their last game, as they just got back Anthony Davis from injury. It will be interesting to see how the Mavs approach their rematch with the reigning champs with their 25-year-old big unavailable.

Both the Lakers and the Mavericks are in need of a win right now, as they look to improve their standings in the Western Conference playoff picture. The Purple and Gold would love to climb back to the Top 4, as they sit in fifth place with a 35-24 slate, while the Mavs are hot on their tails at sixth (32-26).
