The New York Mets are preparing for a hopeful World Series run in 2022 after a busy and productive offseason. However, they were handed a serious blow recently with Jacob deGrom suffering yet another injury, this time to his shoulder. Fellow ace Max Scherzer also gave them a scare, missing his final Spring Training start due to a tweaked hamstring.

On Monday night, the Mets gave updates on both pitchers. Via Jon Heyman:

Certainly a positive that Scherzer will likely be ready to go for Opening Day, but deGrom out until at least June is more than concerning. He was absolutely dominant last season before going on the shelf and with him and Mad Max leading the way, the Mets were expected to have arguably the best 1-2 punch in all of baseball.

Nevertheless, New York still has a rather strong rotation. After Scherzer, Taijuan Walker, Carlos Carrasco, and Chris Bassitt round it out. But they could still use another arm in the wake of deGrom's setback. Preferably, a lefty. There aren't many starters left on the free-agent market though, so it could be tough to sign one right now.

The Mets kick off their campaign on Thursday with a four-game set against the Washington Nationals, followed by a three-game series vs. Philadelphia. If Scherzer can't start on Opening Day, Buck Showalter could either go with his bullpen, or hand David Peterson, Tyler Megill, or Trevor Williams the ball.
