The New York Mets will be down yet another starting pitcher following the latest update to Tylor Megill. According to Steve Gelbs, Megill is dealing with right biceps inflammation, prompting the Mets to place him on the Injured List. The move comes on the heels of Megill's worst start of the season, during which he surrendered 8 earned runs in just 1.1 innings of work.

Megill's move to the IL is retroactive to May 12, meaning he'll be eligible to return as early as May 23, though it's unclear if he'll be ready to get back to the mound that quickly.

On the year, Megill owns a 4.41 ERA with 37 strikeouts across 34.2 innings. Excluding his blowup in his previous outing, Megill had been one of the best pitchers in baseball through the first month of the season. In his first six starts, Megill logged a 4-1 record with 36 strikeouts in 33.1 innings, alongside a sterling 2.43 ERA. The Mets are hoping to see more of that guy when he makes his return from the IL.

With Jacob deGrom still on the sideline, yet to make his 2022 debut, the loss of Megill is another blow to the rotation in Queens. Taijuan Walker has also already spent time on the IL, as has reliever Trevor May, as the pitching injuries begin to mount for the team.

Despite the plethora of injuries, the Mets have managed a 23-12 record and own a comfortable 5.5-game lead in the NL East. With Megill headed to the IL, Colin Holderman was promoted to the MLB team.
