When Edwin Diaz struck out J.T. Realmuto to end the ball game, he capped off a huge piece of history for the New York Mets. He played the final note in the franchise's second no-hitter, accomplishing the feat with Tylor Megill, Drew Smith, Joely Rodriguez and Seth Lugo. Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil drove in three runs for New York to get them the win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Mets' no-hitter is the first no-hitter of the 2022 season and the first combined no-hitter in New York history. The quintet of hurlers joins Johan Santana in the team's history books. Alonso compared the feat to a unicorn and a white buffalo.

Megill kicked off the effort by striking out five in five innings while allowing three walks. Smith came in after him and struck out four of the five batters he faced, allowing a Bryce Harper walk in the process. Rodriguez and Lugo kept up the no-hit bid and Diaz capped it off with three swinging strikeouts on the heart of the Phillies' lineup. Alonso's comparison is apt.

New York is now an MLB-best 15-6 on the season after taking down their division rivals. Having such rousing success while Jacob deGrom is sidelined is a fantastic sign. The ace pitcher is making progress with his scapula injury but is still not close to returning. The Mets are dominating so far after their massive offseason, especially on the mound.

The Mets' no-hitter could be the sign that they are a true title contender.
