Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore and his Wolverines are currently in the midst of a highly important offseason after they finally broke through to championship glory in the 2023-24 college football season, defeating the Washington Huskies in the National Championship Game. Of course, at that time Michigan was still coached by Jim Harbaugh, who has since departed to take his talents back to the NFL and joined the Los Angeles Chargers; however, Moore did get a good bit of experience in leading the Wolverines during the multiple games that Harbaugh sat out due to the NCAA's probe into the franchise.

Although the team's calling card was their defense in 2023, Michigan also had one of the best offensive lines in the country, as has been the case for the last few years. In fact, so dominant has Michigan's offensive line been in recent history that the Wolverines currently have 14 offensive linemen on NFL rosters, which is the most of any school in the country. LSU, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma all find themselves in a three-way tie for second place with 11 each (per PFF College on X).

Throughout the year, Michigan football's offensive line suffocated opposing defenses, helping bolster a Wolverines offense that wasn't exactly brimming with skill positional or quarterback talent. In fact, many pointed to the immense time that quarterback JJ McCarthy had behind his offensive line as one of the main reasons that he was selected as a top ten pick in this year's NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings (which fittingly occurred in Detroit, Michigan).

A new era for Michigan football

As previously mentioned, Michigan football is now moving forward into the future without previous head coach Jim Harbaugh, who has taken up the head coaching job with the Chargers out in Los Angeles.

Michigan is also losing quite a bit of talent this year, as many players have either hit the transfer portal or the NFL Draft, including multiple members of its vaunted defensive unit, which was among the best in the country this past season.

However, new head coach Sherrone Moore seems to love what he's seeing from his squad so far during spring football.

“Yeah, I thought it was good. Physical, tough. I think we're calloused. It was a fun spring. I think the boys got after it. So, excited for the progress we're going to make into the summer,” said Moore, per Alejandro Zuniga of 247 Sports.

Moore also spoke on what it's like now being the “hunted” instead of the “hunter” in the college football landscape.

“The goals always say the same. The goals are to beat our rivals, win the Big Ten, beat Ohio State, make the Playoff, win the Playoff. So the goals stay the same and the process in which we do things will stay the same,” said Moore. “The people are different. People are always different every year. So we're just going to attack the process every day and do it how we know best and put our head down and work. That's all we're going to do.”

The Wolverines' season is set to get underway in early September.
