Charles Woodson will remain as the last defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy in history for at least another year. That’s after Michigan Wolverines senior defensive end Aidan Hutchinson lost out to Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young for the prestigious college football award.

Nevertheless, Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh believes that Hutchinson is going to be the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft

Despite coming up short in his candidacy to win the Heisman Trophy, Hutchinson is having a 2021 college football season to remember. He has been instrumental to Michigan’s success with his play on the defensive end of the field. Hutchinson has 14.0 sacks on the season – the most in the history of Michigan football, most this year in the Big Ten, and third-most in the 2021 college football regular season.

With Hutchinson anchoring Michigan’s top unit, the Wolverines have managed to limit opponents to only 16.1 points per game and 315.8 total yards per contest, second and 10th in the nation, respectively.

Harbaugh and Hutchinson can forget about the latter’s Heisman Trophy loss, as they have a bigger fish to target. Michigan is on a collision course with the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs on Dec. 31 at the College Football Playoff semifinals Capital One Orange Bowl.
