MSI 2022 Rumble Stage: Day 3

The top 6 teams from the Groups Stage advance into the MSI 2022 Rumble Stage, each fighting for one of the four slots in the Knockout Stage. Read on for the summaries and results of MSI 2022 Rumble Stage: Day 3.

The teams that made it to Rumble Stage are T1, G2 Esports, Royal Never Give Up, Evil Geniuses, PSG Talon, and Saigon Buffalo.

Game 1: Evil Geniuses (LEC) vs T1 (LCK)

T1 brought back the Senna-Nautilus duo, with Nautilus being the one doing the farming. They have also drafted Sylas to match the global pressure that Twisted Fate can apply with his ultimate skill, Destiny/Fate.

It was quite a slow early game, even in the first Rift Herald spawn no fights occurred. T1 peacefully claimed the Eye and quickly converted it into a top lane tower after Oner ganked Impact and got a kill off.

The next time any action happened is in the bot side over a Drake. Despite having a numbers disadvantage, Evil Geniuses held their own nicely off of some good performance from Danny. Meanwhile, his counterpart in Gumayusi is slowly falling behind on his Senna. T1 are still winning the skirmishes, but gain no meaningful lead from any of them.

This changed after T1 find a decisive win in a team fight, allowing Senna to catch up in both levels and gold thanks to the Baron buff they claimed. One last decisive fight occurred inside the EG base, wherein they weren't unable to defend against the Baron siege.

Result: T1 win in 25:03 (EG 4 – 12 T1)

Game 2: G2 Esports (LEC) vs PSG Talon (PCS)

To everyone's surprise, PSG Talon gained an early lead off a good roam by both Kaiwing and Bay onto the top side. This wasn't a one-off either, as in multiple occasions PSG were first on the play and left G2 unable to find any answer.

PSG's hard engage comp was very difficult for G2 to fight. Kalista in particular had trouble positioning herself to be safe and deal damage at the same time. While the gold was almost even, Ornn's Masterwork Items meant that PSG Talon were ahead in stats

G2 fought for what would've been PSG's third Drake, and successfully take it, raising G2's Drake count to 2. This came at a heavy price of four G2 members, which gave enough space for PSG to go Baron.

PSG's champions were tanky, and those that weren't were offered great peel and items; Lee Sin had Death's Dance and Tristana had Hexdrinker. PSG Talon simply ran over G2 in their own base and end their lose streak.

Result: PSG win in 27:40 (G2 4 – 12 PSG)

Game 3: Royal Never Give Up (LPL) vs Saigon Buffalo (VCS)

This game went pretty much as how everyone assumed it would be. From minute one, the difference in skill in all lanes showed. Albeit not in the form of kills, every SGB laner had either blown their summoners or a cs gap, or both, meaning that RNG had grown a lead by basically just being better than their opponents.

Hasmed in particular was having trouble. His Gwen wasn't immune enough against the pressure that RNG was exerting towards him, and at one point forced him to recall and pushed two top towers during this small window.

SGB finally turned the tides by finding a fight around the third Drake, they found four RNG members for the price of one on their side. Unfortunately for them, this didn't stop RNG from eventually claiming the Hextech Soul.

RNG stage a fight in their own jungle, and SGB's reset-centric team could not fight enough resets to win the fight. RNG marched towards SGB's base and took out their Vietnamese opponents.

Result: RNG win in 35:36 (RNG 12 – 7 SGB)

Game 4: T1 (LCK) vs PSG Talon (PCS)

This was quite the slow game, with PSG returning every kill T1 achieved but the latter team still holding the gold lead. At 20 minutes, PSG find multiple kills in a fight but are then forced to reset due to their low health bars. This gives the surviving members of T1 the space to claim a mid tower.

T1 soon found another fight after PSG claimed a Drake. PSG got aced in this fight but they went down swinging. Shortly after, T1 decided that it was time to claim the Baron buff, which they did. PSG decided to rain on their parade by killing three T1 members. This, however, did not prevent the remaining Baron buffs on Zeus and Oner to find decent value.

The game was decided after Keria's Gragas engage caught out several multiple PSG members.

Result: T1 win in 34:33 (T1 14 – 12 PSG)

Game 5: Royal Never Give Up (LPL) vs G2 Esports (LEC)

Again, people expected a dominant display of skill from the LPL representatives and that is exactly what happened. Everything that they did work, with no small thanks to their great vision control. On the other hand, G2 Esports' vision was almost non-existent due to Targamas' Yuumi having trouble securing vision on his own. To add to this, G2 didn't really have a decent frontline to protect their squishies during fights.

Another commanding victory from RNG, and a revenge victory for them against the European squad.

Result: RNG win in 26:51 (RNG 15 – 6 G2)

Game 6: Evil Geniuses (LCS) vs Saigon Buffalo (VCS)

A succinct summary of this game would be “clown fiesta.” Fights were happening every minute, but it was a close game overall. Both teams were throwing and landing punches, up until the big fight in bot lane that turned up heads for Evil Geniuses.

Veigar found little value early in the game due to EG promptly punishing his misplays. There wasn't a significant gold lead for either team until later in the game, but the Ornn Masterwork Items did well to give EG that slight edge in fights. Ornn himself soon became unkillable for SGB.

Result: EG win in 32:21 (EG 28 – 11 SGB)
