The NBA has approved the proposed change of its trade deadline from its usual post-All-Star-break time to the second Thursday before the All-Star break, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.

Both teams voted on a Tuesday meeting, with the owners of each team being informed today of the effective deadline of Feb. 8, 2018 for this upcoming season.

This two-week change will have its effects on the way a front office manages a team, but mainly was put in place to take distractions away from the All-Star Weekend and let it be a time to rejoice and be around other NBA stars instead of clouding the event with trade rumors as it’s been customary.

The All-Star break could also serve as valuable time for those recently traded to get acquainted with their new teammates and get up to speed with the system, a much more favorable scenario going forward.

One thing yet to be addressed would be the handling of the All-Star voting, given that if an All-Star player is traded from one conference to another, that leaves very little time to make the necessary adjustments for him to be transferred to another roster.
