NBA icon and basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley is a real-life hero.

In a heartwarming gesture for his high school alma mater and native Alabama, Barkley apparently gave $1,000 each to more than 200 employees of the Leeds City Schools system. The Leeds City Schools made the announcement on Facebook on Tuesday as they thanked Chuck for the much-needed support amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are humbled and wish to express our sincere gratitude to Charles Barkley for providing a $1,000 gift to each and every Leeds City Schools employee for going the extra mile this school year. Being a school employee is tough, but driving a bus, teaching, coaching, or working in the cafeteria, all while maintaining safety protocols, has been a daunting task during a worldwide pandemic.”

It is also not the first time that the NBA great has shown support to Leeds City Schools and students. According to the same post, Barkley has “provided over $3million in scholarships” to help Leeds graduates attend college.

While Barkley is often talked about for his hot takes and “guaranteed” predictions on “Inside the NBA,” one can't deny the big heart he has for the community. Love him or hate him, Sir Chuck is certainly doing his best to help amid the pandemic.

With the playoffs coming, fans will get to see more Barkley and his bold predictions. We can also expect Shaquille O'Neal to rub onto him the fact that he has no championship. However, in the eyes of the employees of Leeds City Schools, he is already a champion.
