Atlanta Hawks All-Star point guard Trae Young and Memphis Grizzlies rookie Ja Morant met and became friends over NBA All-Star weekend in Chicago when both youngsters played for Team USA in the Rising Stars Challenge.

Ever since that weekend in chilly Chicago, Young and Morant keep in touch almost every day, via Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal Constitution:

“I study his game,” Ja Morant said about Trae Young. “He’s one of the top point guards in this league. I play the same position. He sees many different coverages, I see many different coverages. So it’s just breaking down all the types of guards in this league, see what I can take from it and just keep going.”

“I know I’m trying to set a standard for young guys, young point guards for sure, coming into the league,” Young said. “So for me, trying to be a great leader, great role model. Ja knows my line’s open whenever he needs me. That’s how it is.”

Morant is the front-runner to win the Rookie of the Year Award, while Young has already established himself as one of the best point guards in the NBA in just his second season in the league.

In today's NBA, you have to have a star at the point guard spot. Both the Hawks and Grizzlies do. Now, both franchises just need to surround Ja and Trae with the right talent moving forward so basketball fans can see these two young studs in the playoffs.
