Ice Cube recently was a guest on ESPN’s First Take show to talk about a number of topics, including his take on his favorite NBA team, the Los Angeles Lakers, now that LeBron James is with the squad. Ice Cube, however, did not hold himself back from putting the Lakers’ fellow Staples Center residents, the L.A. Clippers, on blast.

When Stephen A. Smith brought up the suggestion that the Clippers should pack their bags and leave Hollywood to the Lakers, Ice Cube seconded the notion and even went as far as to plead for San Diego to stop treating Los Angeles as a dumpsite for unwanted professional sports teams.

“San Diego, man. Stop sending us teams you all don’t want. We don’t want them either.”

Of course, the Clippers, before relocating to Los Angeles in 1984, were a San Diego-based NBA team. After six seasons in San Diego, then team owner Donald Sterling moved the Clippers to Los Angeles, where the franchise continued to share the limelight with the more accomplished and more beloved Lakers to this day. It should also be noted that the Clippers were originally the Buffalo Braves, who existed in the NBA from the 1970-71 season to 1977-78.

The Chargers, meanwhile, are the new kids on the block in Los Angeles, as it was only two years ago when Philip Rivers and company moved into the city from San Diego.

Ice Cube, though, must be thankful of at least one San Diego native that made it big in Hollywood.
